Happy Mother Happy Child and GREEN Farmlands partnered with the Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders Cameroon to implement the Alma Mater Outreach Project Douala under the theme “Every Second Counts.” This impactful initiative was designed to help students navigate life’s crossroads by offering advice and inspiration from Alumni of YALI, who drew from their vast personal and professional experiences to improve the students’ insight into diverse aspects of life. On Tuesday, 21/05/2019, Atim Mbah (founder of Green Farmlands) and Ngweka Queen (founder of Happy Mother Happy Child), along with volunteers like Martha A. Besong and Primos M. Kenah, championed the Alma Mater Outreach program at College Laval Douala. Their focus was on empowering lower sixth students through valuable mentorship, encouraging community service, and guiding them toward becoming servant leaders. The Alumni shared inspiring stories of their involvement in social entrepreneurship and community development, while emphasizing the importance of acquiring good mentors, volunteering, and thinking beyond school. The students received entrepreneurship lessons, learned about US Exchange Programs, and were encouraged to use their long holidays to positively impact their communities. In a grand finale, a YALI club was introduced at the school for students to actively engage upon their return from the holidays. The outreach empowered approximately 60 students, giving them the tools and knowledge to shape their futures. Because truly, every second counts.
